Please recommend a good starter tool set for home and auto use ?

Hi,

Sears Craftsman comes to mind , but I understand that they are made in China now . What about a set from Lowes ? Snap -on is another but are they really that expensive ! ? Which tools would be essential in a basic starter set for a young man that would like to do simple home and automotive tasks ?

Any help will be apprecited.
